VAST are an American alternative rock band based in Austin, Texas. The acronym VAST stands for Visual Audio Sensory Theater and is the main creation of singer/songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Jon Crosby.

VAST’s sound is identifiable as ambient electro-rock with considerable industrial and acoustic influences, usually made with Crosby’s traditional acoustic guitar, electronic instruments and processing, drum-driven tracks, and heavy bass. In recent years, however, VAST’s sound has been more identifiable with acoustic rock in releases such as April and Me and You.

I created this post because I find it hard to express in words how the music of VAST makes me feel, so I thought instead, I would share it with you. The first VAST song I ever heard was Flames, and to say I was stunned is an understatement. The intense yearning and haunting beauty of the track spoke to me on several levels, and it’s been a continous voyage of discovery with Jon Crosby and his evolving and ever-changing band ever since. From the heavy drums, electric guitars and industrial rock feel of Visual Audio Sensory Theater, to the quieter, more introspective acoustic riffs of Me and You, this is one band that you absolutely need to get acquainted with.
